Guide to the Types of Anal Douche

Posted by Serena Zhang on

Anal douching is a practise adopted by many people to keep the rectum clean and debris free in preparation for anal sex. It is done by feeding liquid into the rectum and then allowing it to pass back out carrying any leftover faeces or bacteria out of the body. This liquid is inserted through an anal douche. Douches can come in a variety of styles and sizes, so it’s important to know what kind you should buy.

Basic Anal Douches

The most well-known and simple kind of douche available is the bulb style douche. The bulb douche is made up of a bulb, usually made of silicone or rubber, and a nozzle. The nozzle can be detached, allowing the bulb to be filled with your chosen liquid. You then reattach the nozzle, insert it into your anus, and gently squeeze the bulb to feed the liquid into the rectum.

Bulbs will be available in a range of sizes, allowing you to choose one suitable to your own douching needs. Which nozzle you choose will generally be more important than the bulb though. Nozzles are available in many different lengths and designs, allowing you to choose for ease of use, flow of water, or even sexual pleasure.

With bulb styled douches, it’s important to make sure that you aren’t only cleaning the parts properly, but also drying them after cleaning. It is very easy for mould to build up inside a bulb douche. If this happens, not only will it not clean as effectively, but it also carries the risk of giving you infections.

Shower Systems

Shower based douche systems are designed to attach to either your shower hose directly, the faucet, or as an attachment which stays on the end of the hose alongside the shower head. These allow you to draw warm water directly from your houses pipes straight into your body, cutting out the need for a liquid container. Which design you choose will depend on how often you plan to use it. Those who douche more frequently will probably prefer the kind that attaches to a shower head. Occasional douchers will be fine with one that replaces the shower head temporarily.

Whichever kind of shower douche you choose, it’s important to be very careful with them. There is the obvious danger of burning the inside of your rectum by having the water temperature too high. Additionally, house pipes rarely have consistent pressure. If you accidently apply too much pressure to the inside of the rectum, there’s a risk of perforating it which will require surgery to fix.

Water Bag Douches

This kind of douche is closer to an enema than the traditional bulb douche. It consists of a liquid bag, sometimes several litres in size, which is hung at an elevated position. A pipe runs from the bag to the nozzle, which is then inserted into the anus. The force of gravity pulls the liquid down the tube and into the rectum.

Size is the main benefit here, as bag style douches can carry much more liquid. This lets you clean much more thoroughly, and saves needing to go back for refills during the process. Another benefit of these is the ability to allow the water to get much deeper, similarly to an enema. For those engaging in extreme anal play, they will usually prefer a deeper anal clean.

Disposable Douches

These are the final type of douche. They are usually identical to a bulb type douche, but will generally be smaller. The main attraction here is that you can load several up and take them with you when travelling. Another benefit is being able to throw them away, rather than cleaning them after use. It will work out more expensive in the long run though to consistently use disposable douches, so if you douche regularly, a different style is usually more appropriate.

Whichever type of douche you choose, it’s important to use it safely. This involves using plenty of lube when inserting it into the anus, cleaning and drying it thoroughly after every use, and choosing a liquid appropriate to your douching intentions. No douching is better than dangerous douching.

Nozzle Types for Anal Douches

An anal douche is typically made up of two main parts, a bulb and a nozzle. While the bulb part will only make a difference to how much liquid you can squeeze into your rectum between refills, the nozzle can make a much larger difference to your experience. As the nozzle is the part which actually enters your anus, the shape and size of it can have pleasurable implications too.

Spray Type

Hygienically, the only thing that really makes a difference when choosing an enema nozzle is what type of spray it will give you. Straight nozzles shoot the water in a straight line (unsurprisingly). Spray, or wide-spray nozzles, dispense the liquids in multiple different directions. In general spray based nozzles are superior, covering more area faster and giving a more thorough cleaning.

Length and Width

How long or wide you want your nozzle to be will come largely down to your own personal preferences. If you’ve never engaged in much anal sex then something thin and short will probably be best. More experienced users though will probably be able to handle larger nozzles without any pain or discomfort.

Materials

Depending on the material your nozzle is made from, it can be easier or more difficult to use. Harder materials like metal and some plastics will be less flexible, so you’ll need to get the angle right as you insert them to get them in properly. Some plastics are designed to be much softer though, which makes them much easier to insert while still being strong enough to dispense the liquids.

Shower Nozzles

Some douche nozzles are designed to be attached directly to your shower. This eliminates the need for the bulb part of the douche, and lets the water flow directly from your house pipes, into your pipes. These also mean you can douche while in the shower, so there’s no chance of liquids or faeces getting everywhere.

You need to be a little more careful with these though. As they use your shower pipes, you’ll need to make sure the temperature is the right level or you might burn your rectum. Another issue is pressure, which can vary in house pipes. Too much pressure might rupture your rectum, needing surgery to fix.

Inflatable Nozzles

A slightly less common type of nozzle is the inflatable. These are designed to be inserted and then pumped up a bit, making them easier to hold in. If you’ve found yourself struggling to keep your nozzle in while douching, these are the perfect solution.

Pleasure Nozzles

Some nozzles aren’t designed entirely with hygiene in mind. These can have grooves, patterns or beads on them. Which you have makes no difference to how clean you get, but if you want to enjoy your douching sessions a little more feel free to pick one of these up.

As you can see there are a lot of options when it comes to choosing a nozzle. Whichever you choose to go for, always be sure to clean them after every use, and store them appropriately ready for your next session.
