Butt Plugs and BDSM

Posted by Serena Zhang on

Although most of us would love to be dominated by someone like Christian Grey, it’s safe to say that BDSM is still quite mysterious. Some believe it’s just good old fun, while others think it’s dangerous and downright degrading!

We’ll have to stick to our own opinion — as long as it’s consensual, BDSM is not a huge deal. In fact, it’s liberating for people who have lived repressed lives and are now willing to explore their fantasies.

However, can butt plugs play a role in BDSM, and if yes, how? We’ll reveal everything down below, but first — let’s talk about BDSM in general.

What Is BDSM?

BDSM, short for Bondage/Discipline, Domination/Submission, Sadism/Masochism, is a form of erotic play.

The abbreviation first appeared in 1991. Since then, people have embraced it, as it allows them to explore their hidden desires — some of which may be frowned upon by vanilla people, i.e., people who prefer plain old sex, no toys, etc. — without having to say what turns them on exactly.

So since the 1980s, people have been using a very simple motto — safe, sane, and consensual. However, some prefer to use RACK, or risk-aware consensual kink too.

What’s the difference?

The former term, SSC, entails safe activities where consenting “sane” individuals (people who know exactly what they’re getting into) can play out their fantasies but not get seriously harmed.

In contrast, RACK puts more responsibility on the individuals. The reasoning of RACK supporters is that, according to SSC, even low-risk activities require consent, which means the participants cannot decide for themselves whether or not the rewards are worth the risk.

Who Are the participants?

In general, when practicing BDSM, people can be either a dom, a sub, or a switch.

The dominant and submissive terms can be used interchangeably with top and bottom too. However, there is a slight difference.

Top and bottom roles generally entail the top doing something physical to the bottom. In contrast, dom and sub roles are more related to psychological control.

That said, this doesn’t mean a submissive cannot massage the dominant, nor does it mean that the top cannot use a variety of whips on the bottom.

So who is the switch then?

A switch is a versatile persona, one who can be either a dom or a sub, a top or a bottom. Their roles don’t really define them, as they feel comfortable in either one.

However, each switch can have some natural submissive or dominant tendencies. They can take on both roles but might get a lot more pleasure from a particular one.

Safe Words

Because consent is so important in BDSM, it was vital to figure out how the submissive partner could withdraw it if the roleplaying became too much for them to handle.

Thus, before they agree to meet for BDSM sessions, both individuals decide on a safeword.

Once the submissive wants to stop, they can say it, and the play should be terminated immediately. Otherwise, anything that happens after that without the consent can be considered a crime.

B&D: Bondage and Discipline

As the name says, bondage refers to tying up the person with all sorts of things in order to stop them from moving or having control over the situation. Some dominants love seeing the other person that vulnerable, so it’s often used in BDSM.

However, it’s important to note that safety is important when practicing bondage. One wrong move could cause serious injuries, whether the safeword was said or not (they might not even have the time to say it).

D&S: Domination and Submission

As you might have gathered from our explanation of BDSM roles, there are two types of characters people can take over when practicing BDSM.

The dominant one is a person who thrives on control and ordering someone to do something. Basically, they are looking for a “slave” that would fulfill their every wish.

Of course, the roleplaying can be mild or more serious — it depends on the participants.

In contrast, a submissive person is the one who finds pleasure in someone doing something to them or controlling them.

Most of the time, there are people who might have had a hard life and are seeking those who will tell them what to do.

However, in BDSM, this isn’t always true. People have various desires, and the role they play doesn’t have to relate to who they are in real life.

D/S play can take many different forms, such as teacher and student, employee and boss, or even pet and owner (taking advantage of tail butt plugs!)

S&M: Sadism and Masochism

Finally, the last two letters of BDSM refer to sadism and masochism.

The sadist is the person who gets off on seeing their BDSM partner struggling, twitching, and in pain.

Contrary to that, the masochist loves someone torturing them, poking, and whipping them, as well as being made to do or wear something as a form of punishment.

What Can We Use Them For?

Still, BDSM isn’t all whips and spanking. Some users are drawn to the sexual pleasure they may grace their sub with.

As such, they may play with butt plugs by inserting them in and taking them out, but never letting the other person orgasm fully. This still allows them to stay dominant — they are in control of the person’s climax!

In addition, the dominant one may even order the sub to wear a butt plug during the day but ban them from reaching a climax. This is also a part of the roleplay; if they don’t submit, they might get punished later on.

Still, butt plugs can also be used as a punishment too.

Anal training is also popular in BDSM, and it obviously calls for the use of butt plugs.

The dominant one makes the submissive learn how to open up for their master, leaving them completely under the dom’s control.

It allows the dom to become the real owner; they can leave the sub like that for as long as they’d like, or at least until they can take in a bigger plug.

However, in order to make this activity pleasurable for both sides, the dom and the sub have to agree on certain terms: how long the sub will wear the plug, when they can remove it, etc.

Using Butt Plugs in Punishment Play

One of the most popular uses of butt plugs is for plain old punishment.

Now, there are various ways you can go about using them to punish the sub. Basically, they should see the butt plug as a contraption that will hurt them if they disobey.

Thus, little to no lube at all is crucial in this case, as the point isn’t to give them pleasure.

People who prefer using butt plugs for punishment often find it quite satisfying purely because the sub has to endure pain and suffering during the whole process. As such, it is a powerful tool, as any naughty individual won’t ever forget it.

So how can we use it?

The most basic option is to order them to get a butt plug because they’ve been a very bad sub. Then, we can put the butt plug in without lube and make them wear it for as long as necessary. Sometimes, we can even make them go to work with a plug inside. That’ll certainly teach them!

It’s important to be as creative as possible.

Another option is to switch the plug for a bigger one every hour or so. That way, their bottom will certainly ache for days, and they’ll never try to disobey their master or mistress again.

Add Humiliation to the Mix

The sub disobeyed us and showed a lack of respect. Thus, we have to provide them with a suitable punishment so that they can get disciplined properly.

A good way to do that is to use humiliation to our advantage.

We can make them strip naked and make them wear the butt plug like that. Another option is to make them wear it whole day long, or even lock it in place with a harness.

We can forbid them from taking it out, so they’ll have to endure constant pain and no pleasure at all.

But a personal favorite of many is making the sub put the butt plugs in while we watch. This is a rather humiliating process, as we can also make them do it while naked.

In addition, we can instruct them to keep the plugs in, or they’ll be punished again, or shove it inside in mere seconds.

If they don’t succeed, they’ll have to put the biggest plug there is because they didn’t fulfill our wish.

Final Thoughts on Butt Plugs and BDSM

As you can see, it’s important to be creative when using butt plugs for BDSM; that’s the only way you can discipline the sub.

However, butt plugs, although fun to use, can hurt our bodies if we wear them for longer periods of time. Even in BDSM, this can become a huge issue, so take the examples above as suggestions.

Always ensure you’re as safe as possible!

Finally, never forget about consent and the safeword — the two pillars of successful roleplaying. All activities have to be for the pleasure of both parties, even punishment!
